Snow White
(Schneewittchen in German) is a well known fairytale of German origin, a version of which  was published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812.

In Grimms version, Snow White is a princess who lives with her wicked stepmother/Queen (isn't it amazing how often these crop up in fairytales?) who is jealous of her beauty, which her magic mirror is constantly showing to her.  Finally, The Queen has had enough of competition.  She calls a huntsman and tells him to take Snow White into the forest and dispose of her, and to bring her lungs and liver back to the Queen as proof that she has been murdered.  The huntsman cannot carry out his task, and instead tells Show White to run away into the forest and he kills a boar and brings its lungs and liver to the Queen who promptly has it prepared for her dinner (!)

Snow White runs into the forest, where she finds a small house.  No one is home, so she, of course, enters and eats and drinks, then goes to sleep.  The Seven Dwarves, to whom the house belongs, discover her, take pity on her and allow her to stay with them in exchange for keeping house.  She agrees.

Meanwhile, the Queen has consulted her mirror again and discovered that Show White is alive and living in the forest (tattle tale).  Realizing that if you want something done right, you had better do it yourself, she dopes up an apple, disguises herself as a farmers wife and goes to the Dwarves cottage, where she shares the  the apple with Snow White, giving her the posioned part.  Snow White keels over and the Queen laughs wickedly and rubs her hands together in glee (as these women usually do in fairytales) that Snow White is finally dead and The Queen can now be the fairest in the land.

The Dwarves return home, find Snow White apparently dead and decide to put her body in a glass case (weird, right?)  A short time passes before a handsome Prince (Okay, you KNEW he was going to show up, didn't you?) sees Snow White in her case and persuades the Dwarves to allow him to take Snow White back to his kingdom  (presumably so that he might find someone who can bring her back to life... we hope).  The Dwarves do so (after all, what do you do with a presumably dead girl in a glass case?) and while they are carrying the case through the woods, they stumble, which causes the piece of poisoned apple to fall out of Snow Whites mouth and she revives.  Yea! Happiness all around.  The Prince proposes, Snow White accepts and a huge wedding is planned with invitations going to all of the royalty in the area.

The Queen has since talked to her magic mirror and has discovered that Snow White is alive.  She receives an invitation to the Prince's wedding and attends, although she is a bit worried, suspecting that the bride might be Snow White.  Oops, she was right to worry.  When she arrives at the wedding, the Queen is arrested and is forced to don a pair of burning shoes and dance until she dies.  (No information on what the people of her kingdom had to say about this violation of international law - we can only assume that jubilation ensued - after all, she was wicked.)

Our Snow White, however, is no mouse and wears raiment suitable for any brave witch slayer.
