Pippi Langstrump or Pippi Longstocking, as she
is known in the US, is a character created by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren
in her series of childrens books. Pippi declares her real name is Pippilotta
Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephraimsdaughter Longstocking. She
possesses outrageous red hair that is always worn in tight braids that stick
out and has the manners of a sailor. She lives alone with her monkey,
Mr. Nilsson and her horse, Little Old Man while she awaits the return of
her long lost father. She is courageous, strong enough to lift her horse
with one arm, and delights in confounding pompous and snotty adults.
