Like never before, the automobile was an American
passion, rather than a necessity. The Federal Highway Act of 1956 had
ushered in the era of the American interstate highway and (literally) paved
the way for mobility from state to state. Americans were in love
with their cars - they glorfied them, decorated them, and even ate in them.
The carhop was a 1950s invention, providing curb service in drive
in restaurants and burger joints, and by the 1960s were a common site in
nearly every US town. Often wearing roller skates to speed up the service,
these waitresses often provided entertainment as well as service, balancing
food, trays with speed and grace. The drive up window meant the end
of these Roller Queens, providing the restaraunt owner the opportunity to
lower his operating costs. #C195 White blouse has button up front and contrasting cuffed short sleeves and turndown collar. Skirt is full with a netted underskirt. Zippered closure.
